Volunteers of all ages are the heart of HELPING HANDS’ work to help the homeless. In the Safe Haven program, our volunteers work with our professional staff to organize our meal crews, supervise the evening pick-up, transport guests, cook and serve meals, and chaperone the overnights at churches and synagogues. At the Outreach Center, volunteers help sort and distribute clothing. In our Street Outreach, volunteers take part in food and clothing distributions and the annual homeless count. Volunteers with specialized skills (in health, social work, IT, even in plumbing and electricity) have also donated their expertise. Youth groups have served meals, prepared lunches and hygiene kits, conducted fundraisers and collections, and participated in street "runs." Our Outreach Center "boutique" was re-designed and re-modeled by a Girl Scout toward earning her Gold Star Award, and and Eagle Scout candidate created our new Computer Workbank!
Hundreds of volunteers are required for the Safe Haven (November 1 – April 30), but there are also volunteer opportunities in the Outreach Center right now. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at 845-356-0100 or firstname.lastname@example.org or fill out our volunteer inquiry form.
