Volunteers of all ages are the heart of HELPING HANDS’ work to help the homeless. In the Safe Haven program, our volunteers work with our professional staff to organize our meal crews, transport guests, cook and serve morning and evening meals, and take part in our evening and daytime programs. At the Outreach Center, volunteers help sort and distribute clothing. In our Street Outreach, volunteers take part in food and clothing distributions and the annual homeless count. Volunteers with specialized skills (in health, social work, IT, even in plumbing and electricity) have also donated their expertise. Youth groups have served meals, prepared lunches and hygiene kits, conducted fundraisers and collections, and participated in street "runs." Our Outreach Center clothing "boutique" was re-designed and re-modeled by a Girl Scout toward earning her Gold Star Award, and an Eagle Scout candidate created our Computer Workbank!
Hundreds of volunteers are required for the Safe Haven (November 1 – April 30), but there are also volunteer opportunities in the Outreach Center right now. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us at 845-356-0100 or email@example.com or fill out our volunteer inquiry form.
